Mike’s been teaching guitar sporadically since his mid thirty’s, but it wasn’t until the January of 2006 when it really took off as he started teaching in ‘Westside Music’ Yeovil. This eventually progressed into private tuition at home where he started with 7 students and soon multiplied to 70; now Mike has over 100 students on the books. With the launch of Mike’s Music in 2005 Mike opened up his studio to three other teachers to cater for the huge demand.
Mike soon developed his own teaching syllabus to cater for all ages and abilities. Progress of the students can be measured against accredited exams by the London College of Music and it is possible to work through up to a grade 8 standard of playing. The higher grades can achieve UCAS points towards a university grade 8, which is equivalent to an ‘A’ level.
Guitar lessons can start at an early age, but we also have students up to the age of 75 who still enjoy the challenge. The lessons include the learning of basic chords so you can sing along to your favourite songs with scales and music theory interwoven as required
